Balls...Cubed!

Here's a fun one. A cube. Made of 8 cubes in 2x2x2 arrangement. Which is in turn made of a bunch of smaller cubes, which are made from a 4x4x4 arrangement of buckyballs!

Not as intricate as some of my other stuff, but still cool to look at.

Interesting side note, with the sets I acquired in order to finish this little shape, I officially surpassed 40 sets! That's 8,640 balls! Yay!

...I swear, I don't need an intervention.

Excuse me sir, but that R2 unit is in prime condition. A real bargain!

Been trying to make an Artoo for a while now, but could never get a satisfactory body that was shaped well, and light and sturdy enough to get the propper tilt. Then I recently found videos from other bucky-fans describing "The Ultimate Shape"

With a few tweaks to get the cylindrical body, and the angled center foot, the rest came together quickly and I had finally achieved my bucky Artoo!

Now to give him an X-Wing to sit in...

Here's a fun one. Just playing around and made an interesting little shape. A friend commented that it resembled the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

Loving the comparison, I added the signature cross "pin" to the top.

And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats...

I got published!

Krakaboom!

About a month ago, The FX studio I work at (Luma Pictures) wrapped up our work on Marvel's new Thor movie. To commemorate, I made a little sculpture of Mjolnir embedded in stone. This was actually the first time I ever sculpted an existing object, instead miscellaneous patterns and arrangements that suited the properties of the magnets. It's also the first time I had to use non-buckyball parts. In order to strengthen the handle and keep it from falling off when tilted, I embedded a AA battery in the base. (The movie turned out great too!)

Hi! My name is John Hazzard, and I'm an addict. I'm addicted to these damned little magnetic balls. I got my first set a little over a year ago, and since then I've been hooked. Slowly building my collection as I ordered more and more sets to satisfy my ever growing need to build ever bigger and crazier structures.

At any rate, they're kinda nifty to look at. Here's everything that I have pictures of to date. I'll post new stuff as I make 'em.
